One part memoir, two parts humor, LOST JOURNAL collects the best of the nationally syndicated column seen in over 300 newspapers and websites. Each column is a humorous snapshot of a day in the author's past, written as a journal entry. A particular entry may be from Halloween 1980, yesterday, or the day he was born. By writing a diary in retrospect, Mollen satirizes both past and present, serving up pop culture and nostalgia with a wit that is both sharp and gentle-hearted. Many of the entries present poignant, self-deprecating stories of growing up in the 1970s and '80s as the youngest of six boys in a middle-class, Irish Catholic family. This volume is one of a three-part series, each one a treasury of humor.

I was reading in bed when a spider came down from the ceiling and nearly landed on me. I freaked out but was awake and alert enough- due to the short, newspaper column-length chapters- to smush the spider with a tissue and flush it.
Oh, and it's funny. The premise is cute- each chapter being a journal entry from the author's life. If it seems familiar to some, the Journals were syndicated by Gannett newspapers about a decade ago when it still employed writers.

Lost Journal Vol 1 Confessions of a Failed Paperboy edition by Tim Mollen Humor Entertainment eBooks Reviews

This book works well wither you are a long time Binghamton area resident like me or if you live in a foreign country like my boyfriend's mom. It is really funny. The author manages to be very humorous WITHOUT resorting to stereotypes or rude/shocking language. He points out the humor in everyday life. The closest author I can think of to compare this work to is David Barry. When I am poking around town I often think about funny incidences from this book series and chuckle all over again. Great bed side (or bathroom) reading because each story is 2 pages. This means that you will actually read and enjoy this book if you get it.
Witty, funny, and real.... these are the words I would use to describe Tim Mollen's books. They are so thoroughly enjoyable to read, with a lot of seriously laugh-out-loud moments. It really reminded me of growing up in NY in the 70s and 80s, and I felt like I was re-living some great times through the eyes of a child. I highly recommend these finely crafted, comedic books if you're looking for some lighthearted reading about the good ole days! Super enjoyable.
I started following Mullen when he posted his lost journal entries in the local paper. Some are cute, many are funny, and there a number of entries that had me setting my coffee down so I wouldn't spill it. You gotta check this out, and for less than a cup of coffee.
Get ready to laugh out loud. Tim Mollen is a gifted writer and humorist who can find something funny in the most ordinary moments of life such as delivering a newspaper so late that people think the morning paper is actually an afternoon paper.
One of my favorite columns is Tim's account of attending a Halloween party dressed in a fluffy white blanket and dispensing hugs. He was a comforter! Even the titles of the columns are funny with such gems as "Teed-off at Taylor's Tiny Town (Tim's adventures at miniature golf), "Lament on a Lost Tooth," and "Writing Like a Lefty Makes Righty Feel Wrongy."
This is a fun and funny read from a guy who knows how to leave them laughing.
This book was so raw and honest. I felt like I was there. If you like David Sedaris books, you’ll LOVE TIM MOLLENS books. Think Napoleon Dynamite meets Lewis CK ( befor we knew he was creepy ). Little bit of dorky 70s kid who you’re rooting for yet has such an Incredible humorous, biting satirical gift of come back that you just know he can hold his own so he doesn’t need your protection. In fact maybe someday you’ll be able to see past his chicken arms red hair, pale skin covered in freckles and wish you had his sharp wit when confronted by some of life’s people come are from the island of drama. Then and only then will you realize he was the more manly one after all.
Lost Journal Part 1 kept me awake last night, because I was laughing so hard. Anybody who is... well, human, will appreciate this humor, because it's all about people. Highly recommended.
As a mom of three boys, this book hit home with the shenanigans of the Mollen boys. Some of the stories also hearkened me back to my own younger years... it was sad to hit the end, thank goodness there's another volume waiting! can't wait to crack open the next one.
